About this Group
We are a group of motivated individuals from NYC, NC, and beyond, who are committed to flipping North Carolina's state House of Representatives from red to BLUE in 2020 and helping to take down Donald Trump and Republican U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (thereby ousting Mitch McConnell as Majority Leader) along the way.
If we can flip N.C., we can flip the U.S. Here is how.
1. NEW MAPS = CONGRESSIONAL STRONGHOLD
If Dems win the state house, they will draw fairer congressional maps in N.C. Right now, the Congressional map is gerrymandered heavily in Republican hands (10 of 13 seats despite the electorate being roughly 50% Dem). There is belief that N.C. will get a 14th seat after the upcoming census, and a new map could lead to a Democratic gain of anywhere from 4 to 8 seats in Congress. That would help give Dems a stronghold in Congress.
2. TO WIN THE U.S. SENATE, DEMS MUST WIN N.C.
If we win flip the N.C. state house (need to flip 6 seats), that will likely mean a surge of new voters and could lead to Cal Cunningham beating Thom Tillis in the U.S. Senate race. And the clearest path to Democrats winning control of the U.S. Senate is winning the N.C. seat up for grabs.
Right now, the count is 53-47, and if Biden beats Trump, Dems need to get 50 to have the majority, since Biden's VP would be the tiebreaker vote in that scenario.
Doug Jones is probably going to lose in Alabama, bringing the count down to 46. That means the Dems need to flip 4 other seats. The most likely red-to-blue flips are Maine, Arizona, and Colorado. So where do we get the 4th flip?
According to 270towin.com, there is one other Senate seat considered a toss-up: North Carolina.
3. TRUMP NEEDS NORTH CAROLINA
Trump has almost no path to victory if he loses North Carolina. Obama won there in 2008, N.C. elected a Democrat for governor in 2016, Biden winning here is not far-fetched.
4. HELPING THE NEEDIEST
This one isn't related to winning over control of the U.S., but let's not forget how a win in N.C. would help people in need. If Democrats win the state house, they will expand Medicaid in North Carolina, giving healthcare access to 600,000 people who currently don't have it.
